When Life Feels Heavy: Leaning on Your Wellness Team

Fall is such a beautiful season, but it often comes with a lot of busyness. Between school schedules, sports practices, work projects, and preparing for the holidays, many of us feel stretched thin. Add in the shorter days and cooler weather, and it’s easy to find yourself feeling run down, overwhelmed, or just plain heavy.

If you’ve ever thought, “I can’t keep doing this on my own,” you’re not alone. And here’s the good news—you’re not meant to do it alone.

Stress and the Nervous System

When life feels heavy, your nervous system feels it too. The constant rushing, worrying, and juggling responsibilities keeps your body in a heightened state of stress. That’s when symptoms start to show up: headaches, poor sleep, fatigue, irritability, digestive issues, or immune struggles.

As a chiropractor, I look at how your nervous system is functioning under stress. Through scans, x-rays, and gentle adjustments, we can see how well your brain and body are communicating and help restore balance. But chiropractic is just one piece of the puzzle.

This is where your wellness team comes in. Having the right people around you means you don’t have to carry everything alone—and your body doesn’t have to either.

The Power of Leaning In

When life feels overwhelming, it’s tempting to pull back and try to power through alone. But what if instead of isolating, you leaned in? What if you gave yourself permission to ask for help and receive care?

Leaning on your wellness team can look like:

  • Booking a chiropractic adjustment to calm your nervous system.

  • Scheduling a massage at The Zen Den or Meridian Massage to release tension you didn’t even realize you were carrying.

  • Taking a yoga class at Elevate Yoga to breathe deeply and reconnect with yourself.

  • Meeting with a counselor at NoVu Counseling to process emotions and gain perspective.

  • Working with a health coach like Andrea DuMez to uncover nutritional and lifestyle changes that lighten your load.

Support isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Andrea DuMez: Creating a Holistic Haven

I’m so excited to share that my friend and partner in wellness, Andrea DuMez, will be hosting an event right here in Sheboygan on October 21st from 7–8 PM. It’s called:

“Creating a Holistic Haven: Simple Steps to a Healthier Home for You and Your Family.”

Andrea is a Registered Nurse, Certified Holistic Nutritionist, and National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach. During this evening, she’ll be walking you through how your environment, nutrition, sleep, and activity can all impact your health—and what small, doable steps you can take to feel better in your daily life.

If you’ve been dealing with bloating, fatigue, stubborn weight, or hormonal ups and downs, this event is especially for you. Andrea has such a gift for uncovering root causes and helping people see that small changes can truly add up to big results.

It’s the perfect opportunity to experience firsthand what it looks like to lean on your wellness team and learn practical tools to create more health in your home.

A Story of Support

One of the things I see often in practice is moms who come in exhausted and stretched beyond their limit. They’ll say things like, “I don’t have time for myself” or “I feel guilty asking for help.”

But when they finally begin to build their wellness team—starting with chiropractic care and adding in resources like massage, counseling, or nutrition support—everything shifts. They sleep better. Their energy returns. Their kids notice a calmer, happier mom. And most importantly, they realize they don’t have to hold the world on their shoulders alone.

Practical Steps for When Life Feels Heavy

If you’re feeling weighed down this season, here are three steps you can take right now:

  1. Check in with your body. Notice what symptoms are creeping in—fatigue, tension, irritability, or headaches are often signs of overwhelm.

  2. Reach out to your team. Schedule an appointment with a provider you trust, whether that’s me for chiropractic, a massage therapist, or Andrea’s workshop on the 21st.

  3. Take one step at a time. Don’t worry about fixing everything at once. Just start with one area of support and build from there.

Final Thoughts

Life will always have seasons of heaviness, but you don’t have to carry them alone. Your wellness team is there to hold space for you, guide you, and support your body in doing what it was designed to do: heal and thrive.

At intūn ChiroCare, I’m honored to be one piece of that team. And I’m so thankful for the many incredible providers in our Sheboygan community who bring their gifts to the table. Together, we can help you feel lighter, calmer, and more balanced—even when life feels heavy.

So this fall, don’t just power through. Lean in. Build your team. And remember: you’re never alone on your wellness journey.
